Roxanne Grant

Artist

I am very interested in the margins of western culture and have for over 25 years actively engaged with regional based communities since I returned from making/ creating works during my 3 year residency in New York City in 1995

My practice is largely performance, experimental and non-object based. As a contemporary artist, I work in public spaces, outside the traditional gallery context. I prefer to work collaboratively across disciplines. My work is mainly socially engaged, environmentally inspired and concerned with the aesthetics of the everyday. The participatory nature of my practice has seen me immerse myself in the social fabric of the communities that become my collaborators.

A collaborative hybrid Artwork
(With Anne Walton and Mel Carter) using video projection, violin and performance, site specific outside of derelict building in Geraldton
This collaboartive artwork was a direct response to the impact of the workers uniform on urban regional culture. Both men and women are seduced into the utopian dream of 'lifestyle'
Strings_attached attempted to deconstruct this.

This artworks research, development and presentation was made possible through a Creative Communities Grant from the
City of Greater Geraldton 2014
